Stakkabót og Kópavík
South of Urðaviti is Páskahraun, followed by the bays Stakkabót and Kopavík. The airport lies above Stakkabót and it is not possible to get to the bay from this area. Stakkabót bay is surrounded by Sæfell and Kervíkurfjall, and there’s a large puffin colony on the eastern slopes of Sæfell.
There are often many puffins and guillemots on the sea around Stakkabót, which is a wonderful sight to see. A hiking trail lies below the airport runway, up Sæfell, and down to Kervíkurfjall. From there you can go out to Litlahöfði, which lies to the west and forms a beautiful little cove opposite the Kervíkurfjall cliff.
Locals often visit Kópavík in their RIB boats. The underwater lava embankment forms a kind of reef outside the bay, which makes it particularly enjoyable to visit by boat.
